Hollow Concrete Blocks

What is Concrete Hollow Block?

The concrete hollow block is the pre-cast concrete element produce to cast cheap and light construction elements like a lightweight concrete slab, lightweight wall, Stormwater channel etc. Hollow blocks having one or more hollow cavities and design with smooth or rough sides. It is also known as CHB (Concrete Hollow Blocks). Concrete hollow blocks could be produced with several concrete grad or class as per the applications.

Concrete Hollow Block

According to the requirement, Concrete hollow blocks can be manufactured. It is also known as concrete masonry units or concrete slab units. The selection of hollow blocks depends on its use; whether you are using it for the pot slab or you are using for block wall.

The concrete hollow block shown in the above picture is a rectangle type and the size is 400 X 200 X 200 mm, but it can produce as per the requirement at the work. In 2014, I had visited one site; During my visit slab casting were in progress. The design of the slab was hollow pot slab. It was composite of the Concrete hollow blocks, Concrete and Steel. So, the hollow blocks are one idea which can be used as per the requirement to get light, cheap and durable structure/element in the construction.

Hollow pot slab preparation.
It designed in the way to produce strong, light, cheap, sound resistant (Produce due to the movement of people, machine and other furniture and vibration) slab. It contains voids which save the concrete and the way its arrangement designed, it saves steel. Concrete rib in one direction between each row holds the hollow pots and connects with the beam. Hollow pot slab increase speed in construction as whole activity can be split into different activities which can run parallel at site and production yard. The specific advantages of hollow pot concrete are below;

  • Sound damping
  • Economical for a long span.
  • Fast and Ease of Construction
  • Light Weight
  • Allows to hide beams
  • Temperature control

What is Request for Information (RFI) in Construction?

Hello Friends! Welcome to my blog Mad About Construction. My name is Dipak Varsani and I am the author of I am a Civil Engineer by profession and I started my engineering journey as a site engineer.
In this blog, we will look into What is RFI, the importance of it in Construction and other RFI related questions.

What is RFI in Construction? Full form of RFI is Request for Information. A Request for Information is a standard process in construction to collect information in writing. Writing RFI and collecting the missing information or data is very important for good project management and it should be followed to minimise conflicts and issues. Construction documentation is the skeleton of any construction project and RFI is a vital construction document that assists in collecting the information from the authorised party or team in the construction project. RFI can also be used in other areas outside of construction. The missing information can also be reques…

How to Solve the Problem of Virtual Lines in AutoCAD?

Hello Friends, This is me Dipak Varsani and welcomes to my page Mad About Construction. In this blog, I will tell you how to solve the problem of virtual lines in AutoCAD. Have you ever face the problem that when you open any AutoCAD files and you find some random lines appears and disappears during zooming in and zooming out? then you are at the right place to get this matter resolved. Here I will guide you step by step to solve the problem of virtual lines in AutoCAD.
To get out of this situation we need to change some settings in you AutoCAD so kindly follow below steps; 1. Open AutoCAD file. 2. Hit the Command "GRAPHICSCONFIG" and then hit the enter. 3. "Graphics Performance" dialogue box will appear on your screen. Uncheck the "Display Smooth Line Display" option and then you try to zoom in and zoom out. 4. Now you try to zoom in or zoom out and you will see that no more lines.
For more idea on how to fix lines appears and disappears during zooming …

Method Statement- Works to Build the Manhole in the lowest Basement

Hello Friends! Welcome to my blog. My name is Dipak Varsani, and I am the author of I am a Civil Engineer by profession, and I have taken the journey as a Site Engineer in my company.

In this blog, we will discuss Method Statement which I had to prepare and got approved from an Engineer in my recent project to resolve the rainwater pipe blockages issue and for future maintenance if the same problem arises again. The pipe was getting blocked frequently, and the reason may be;
Pipe Size:- If the pipe size is too small, it can get choked up easily. In my case, the pipe size was 100mm.
The slope of pipe:- To flow the water with gravity force the minimum required slop is 1% (10mm in every 1000mm), and this is what we have provided during placement of rainwater pipe in our project.
Distance:- The distance from the bend in-floor up to Intermediate manhole or Petro Inter-septics tank or any other tank or manhole. If the distance is long then debris of stuff get accumu…
